I've been following this story as best as I can and it really makes me angry, and sick. When I read the report the other day, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Not only did their son kidnap and rape this poor little boy, but then the dad and mom found him "in action", the dad joined in and raped the little boy as well. Then the mom helped clean up and a fourth man help dispose of the body, after he was strangled to death.

Christopher Barrios Repeatedly Raped, Then Strangled

By Chuck Hustmyre

March 23, 2007

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Crime Library) — As Christopher Barrios's family struggled to make final preparations to lay the body of the 6-year-old to rest, authorities released chilling details about how he died.

The just-released 13-count indictment against Christopher's accused killers, George Edenfield, his parents David and Peggy Edenfield; and family friend Donald Dale, who is charged only with helping conceal the kidnapping and murder, paints the most gruesome picture yet of the brutal death of little Christopher Barrios.

According to the indictment, the Edenfields lured Christopher into their mobile home on March 8 as the boy was walking from a neighborhood swing set to his grandmother's house for supper. Inside their trailer, the Edenfields held the little boy captive while George and David, both convicted sex offenders, took turns sodomizing him.

As she watched her husband and son rape the kindergartener, Peggy Edenfield, 57, masturbated, the indictment charges.

Sometime during the attack, both George, 32, and his father, David, 58, performed oral sex on the boy.

The two men then choked Christopher to death.

Afterward, according to a statement Peggy Edenfield gave to the police, George and David used clothing to wipe semen off of themselves.

Then, either Peggy or George used soap and water to try to clean off any fingerprints left on Christopher's neck from the strangulation. They then wrapped the boy's body in plastic trash bags.

The Edenfields then called family friend Donald Dale, 34, who helped them dump Christopher's body near the Glynn County airport.

Two game wardens, part of a small army of hundreds of law enforcement officers, National Guard troops, and volunteers who spent a week searching for Christopher, found the boy's body a week later less then three miles from his home.

The two game wardens, both on ATVs, spotted tire tracks leading off of a road near the airport. They dismounted their ATVs and followed the tracks on foot. About 15 feet from the road, the two lawmen came across a black plastic trash bag buzzing with flies.

After a week of anxious searching, they had finally found Christopher.

A Family of Monsters

In 1994, David Edenfield was convicted of incest for having sex with his daughter. He was sentenced to 10 years of probation.

Three years later, his son George molested two boys, ages 9 and 7, who lived near the Edenfields' Union Street home in downtown Brunswick. Like his father, George, received no prison time for his crime. Instead, a judge gave him 10 years probation.

George Edenfield was well known around Union Street.

One neighbor told Crime Library that George often flew into terrible rages. While raging, he threatened sexual and other physical attacks. He frequently trespassed on others' property and threatened one neighbor with hedge trimmers, promising to cut off the neighbor's toes. According to the neighbor, when Peggy Edenfield heard about the threat, she joked about it, saying George shouldn't follow through with it because she didn't like "toe sandwiches."

On August 30, 2006, Glynn County sheriff's deputies told George he had to move. As a registered sex offender, state law prohibited him from living within 1,000 feet of places where children congregate, such as schools, daycare centers, and playgrounds.

The Edenfields' house on Union Street was less than 250 feet from the Orange Park playground.

he deputies gave George Edenfield 10 days to clear out.

A couple of weeks later, the deputies found out George hadn't moved, so they got a warrant for his arrest.

On Oct. 9, sheriff's deputies arrested Edenfield. He spent nine days in jail before posting a $3,000 bond.

Shortly after his arrest, George and his family moved into the Canal Road Mobile Home Park where Christopher Barrios lived.

In mid-November, a Glynn County grand jury indicted George Edenfield for being a registered sex offender living too close to prohibited areas.

In the trailer park, George continued his strange ways.

"I know the boy was weird," neighbor Leland Ferguson told the Florida Times Union. "He'd come up to the school bus and stop and googly-eye the children."

Another neighbor said George tried several times to lure two teenage boys into playing ball with him or taking a walk in the woods with him as the boys got off their school bus.

On March 5, three days before he allegedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered Christopher Barrios, George Edenfield pleaded guilty to the November indictment and received another 10 years of probation.

Glynn County District Attorney Stephen Kelley announced Wednesday that he is seeking the death penalty against all three Edenfields.

"This is one of the most horrific crimes that I've seen in 21 years of prosecutions," he told The Associated Press.

Christopher's grandmother, Sue Rodriquez, has nothing but contempt for the Edenfields.

"They're monsters from hell," she said.

Investigation into George Edenfield's Life Uncovers Very Disturbing Behavior

By Marilyn J. Bardsley

March 23, 2007

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Crime Library Editorial) — I had been following the news of the disappearance, and then murder of 6-year-old Christopher Barrios with a range of emotions. First, fear for the boy's safety, and then sorrow when they found his body dumped in a remote area in a trash bag, followed by anger when a convicted child molester and his twisted family were responsible. As I learned the details of this horrific crime, anger quickly turned to outrage and I found myself traveling down I-95 from my office in Savannah to Brunswick to get a better understanding of what caused this innocent child to lose his life in such a tragic way.

What I discovered to my chagrin was that quirks in Georgia's law governing where convicted sex offenders could live resulted in George Edenfield moving from a prohibited location to a legally-permitted location in a neighborhood where children were omnipresent. Even more disturbing was that Edenfield's behavior in both locations should have raised a huge red flag to authorities, but because there was a disconnect between the neighbors who witnessed the behavior and the authorities who could have done something about it, nothing was reported and, consequently, nothing was done.

From what Crime Library's Chuck Hustmyre has reported, it was clear that justice was not served 10 years ago when George Edenfield molested two neighbor boys in 1997 and a deal had been cut that permitted the convicted sex offender to be running around loose on probation, instead of being confined behind prison walls. Ironically, to further emphasize the failure of this approach to child molesters, Edenfield was in court 3 days before Christopher's disappearance on another offense — living too close to a playground.

On March 5, 2007, Glynn County Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett was presented with a deal made by a state prosecutor that he could have either refused or accepted. The deal was a negotiated arrangement that gave George Edenfield another 10 years of regular probation, even though the assistant D.A. Gregory Perry recommended a year of intensive supervision instead of regular probation.

Hundred Turn Out to Mourn Brunswick Boy

Thursday, Mar 22, 2007 - 10:15 PM
The body of 6-year-old Christopher Barrios, Jr. was laid to rest today, just one day after prosecutors announced they will seek the death penalty against the three people accusing of killing the 6-year-old boy.

Funeral services were held today in Brunswick in Glynn County, GA. Hundreds of mourners packed the funeral home to pay their final respects to the boy and his family. Many of those attending were the volunteers who helped search for Christopher in the days after he went missing.

Glynn County prosecutors will seek the death penalty against 32-year-old George David Edenfield, who has a prior child molestation conviction, and against his parents David and Peggy Edenfield.

A grand jury indictment charges the father and son with sexually assaulting the boy, while the mother watched. The indictment also says the boy was then choked to death.

The grand jury also indicted a friend of the Edenfield family, Donald Dale, on charges of concealing a body and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors say Dale didn’t get involved until after Christopher had been killed.

Indictment details final hours for boy

03/23/07

By Teresa Stepzinski

Morris News Service

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Christopher Michael Barrios Jr. spent the last few hours of his life in fear and pain as a prisoner trapped in a hell midway between the safety of his grandmother and his father's homes about 100 feet away.

The 6-year-old Glynn County boy was choked to death and sexually brutalized by a convicted sex offender and his father as his mother watched, a county grand jury indictment charged Wednesday.

And when Christopher was dead, his body was hidden in woods about 2 miles from the Canal Road Mobile Home Park where the shy boy's family and the Edenfields were neighbors. His clothing also was concealed to prevent discovery of his slaying.

"In my 21 years of prosecuting, it is one of the most gruesome cases I've ever dealt with involving the death of a child," said District Attorney Stephen Kelley, announcing he will seek the death penalty against the three people indicted for killing Christopher.

Convicted child molester George D. Edenfield, 31, along with his father, David H. Edenfield, 58, and Peggy C. Edenfield, 57, each were indicted on malice murder charges in Christopher's abduction and asphyxiation death on March 8.

In addition, all three Edenfields and their friend, Donald C. Dale, 34, are charged with concealing the death and tampering with evidence. The indictment said Dale's involvement occurred after Christopher's death.

None of the attorneys representing the Edenfields responded to telephone messages.

Dale's attorney, John Wetzler, told the Times-Union that his client was duped by the Edenfields, who then lied to police about his involvement in order to save themselves.

"Donnie was in the worst place at the absolutely worst time and he trusted the wrong people," Wetzler said.

Wetzler characterized Dale as mentally challenged, naive and easily manipulated like a child. He plans to have Dale undergo IQ testing as well as mental health and mental competency evaluations as soon as possible.

"I don't think he understood my questions, much less the questions being asked by the police," Wetzler said. "I think the only reason they arrested him was he gave inconsistent statements to them ... but that was because he was confused and didn't really understand what they were asking," he said.

Dale's passion for playing video games led to his friendship with the Edenfields, which began when they were neighbors in downtown Brunswick. After Christopher disappeared, the Edenfields lured Dale to their home under the pretext of a video game session, Wetzler said. Other details in court records include:

George Edenfield told police that he watched Christopher come home from school about 2:45 p.m. March 8. He said the "devil" told him to kill Christopher. George Edenfield admitted to killing the boy by choking him with his hands.

Christopher was enticed inside the Edenfields' mobile home, which is along the path the boy walked daily between his grandmother and father's homes in the park.

They should die, all three of them. They should die slow, and agonizing deaths. They won't die that kind of death though. They will be fed and housed, and will have all teh sex they want, the kind of sex they like apparently...

That poor child. Many people dont' think this could happen, not outside of a horror film or something, and certainly not to a child, at the hands of a whole family.

This little boy shoul still be alive and happy. I can't believe they moved a child molester into a trailer park where children lived... But then again, the man was probably MADE a predator by hi father and mother...

They should die, slowly, horribly, and without mercy...

But they won't.

I cant stand that abhorrent helpless feeling and disgust reading this type of crime against a child. Outrage does little to describe how the law failed to protect this child. Treachery on that level.Decent people and their kids are prisoners of society's monsters and p*ssy footing friggin laws.

Court packed for first hearing in death of boy, 6

Teresa Stepzinski | Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 12:30 am

BRUNSWICK - Sue Rodriguez clenched and re-clenched her fingers around a tear-stained tissue Monday as she glared with hate-filled eyes across the courtroom at a convicted child molester and his parents charged with slaying her 6-year-old grandson last month.

Registered sex offender George D. Edenfield and his parents, Peggy C. and David H. Edenfield, each face the death penalty if convicted of killing Christopher Michael Barrios Jr., who was sexually brutalized and then asphyxiated after being abducted March 8.

Meanwhile, court documents made public Monday revealed that Christopher had been enticed into the Edenfields' mobile home under the pretext of playing video games. Glynn County police, in a sworn affidavit seeking a search warrant, stated that they had "reason to believe that Christopher Barrios was using the video-game console prior to being murdered" inside the Edenfield home.

Police seized a Playstation with control console from George Edenfield's room as well as a box of video games, sheets, blankets, a hammer and an open box of black trash bags from the family's home during a search, the affidavits showed.

Rodriguez - along with her son, Christopher Michael "Mike" Barrios Sr. and about 30 other relatives, friends and volunteers who helped search for Christopher - packed the courtroom where the Edenfields and their family friend, Donald Dale, made their first appearance before Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett in the case.

"I just want five minutes alone with them. ... I hate them. All of them. I want them all to die. ... Take them all to hell. That's where they need to be," Rodriguez said after the court hearing.

Although watching the hearings Monday was "nerve-racking," Rodriguez vowed to be at every court hearing to ensure that Christopher receives justice.

"It's very nerve-racking to see them (the Edenfields) sitting there with no concern at all on their faces," she said. "But I want them to look at my face. ... In my mind, I'm thinking 'burn in hell.' I'm praying that."

Each of the three Edenfields is charged with malice murder as well as multiple related charges in Christopher's slaying, including child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and false imprisonment, a Glynn County grand jury charged in a March 21 indictment.

Prison inmates lap up water

Mark Buttler

March 23, 2007 12:00am

VICTORIA'S biggest prison has won an exemption to fill a swimming pool just as new water restrictions bite hard on the rest of the state.
Port Phillip Prison -- home to killers, sex offenders and armed robbers -- won an exemption last week to fill one of its six swimming pools.

The pool had been left empty by a faulty drain.
Tell us below, should prison pools be re-filled?

The Herald Sun learned of the development as the State Government unveiled its new stage 3a bans, which will allow households to water their gardens just twice a week between 6am and 8am from April 1.

The prison, with 745 inmates, is already one of the state's biggest water users.

In January it was listed as one of Melbourne's top 200 industrial water users.

City West Water approved the water restriction exemption to fill the prison pool on March 14.

The prison pool was filled in recent days.

A spokesman for Port Phillip operator GSL Australia, Tim Hall, defended the action saying that filling of pools at the jail was a requirement of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.

He said the swimming pools were used as a back-up water supply in case the prison's fire pump failed.

"We are required to keep them full," Mr Hall said.

"It's not a question of abusing water restrictions so the prisoners can swim.

"Really, their sole function is for an emergency."

Mr Hall said the prison was different to everyday households that had swimming pools.

He said that prisoners could have nowhere to escape in the event of a fire.

City West Water managing director Anne Barker said the jail had contacted the company seeking an urgent exemption after the faulty valve emptied the pool.

"Port Phillip needs this pool as an emergency back-up water supply for its fire services," Ms Barker said.

These are in various Australian newspapers and newsites on the internet.

I did a plain google search.

I typed in "Australia", "pedophile"

The second search I did was "Australia", "child sex"

Don't forget to put the main words of your search in parenthesis and also, a comma between them.

Trust me, pedophiles are everywhere. I know in the UK it is also spelled differently, and you could try spelling it the way the newspapers there may spell it

pedeophile I think it is. ????

Edenfield home stays as is

Judge orders mobile home can't be moved or razed for now as attorneys scramble

By TERESA STEPZINSKI, The Times-Union

BRUNSWICK - A Glynn County judge has forbidden temporarily the destruction or removal of the rented mobile home and personal belongings of a convicted child molester and his parents charged in the sexual abuse slaying of Christopher Michael Barrios Jr.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett issued a temporary restraining order Wednesday following a request from attorneys representing registered sex offender George D. Edenfield. They were concerned over the possible loss of evidence helpful to their client.

The judge ordered landlord Sharon O'Quinn and her agents not to destroy, remove or alter the home where George Edenfield, 31, and his parents, David H. Edenfield, 58, and Peggy C. Edenfield, 57, lived in Canal Mobile Home Park.

Scarlett also barred O'Quinn from destroying or removing any of the Edenfields' personal property. George Edenfield and his parents each face the death penalty if convicted of killing the 6-year-old boy, He was abducted March 8, sexually brutalized then asphyxiated.

The Edenfields' home is beside a path that 6-year-old Christopher walked between the homes of his father and grandmother in the mobile home park.

Christopher was killed after being enticed into the Edenfield home under the pretext of playing video games. His body was found inside a black plastic trash bag in woods about 2 miles from the park exactly one week after he disappeared, court documents show.

Suspect wants hearing closed
is the headline

Sat, Apr 7, 2007

The grandmother of Christopher Barrios thinks all the pretrial publicity and motions in court should be made public. The defense attorney for Peggy Edenfield does not. He is a court appointed attorney, his name is Richard Allen.

Richard Allen (defense attorney) has asked that all pre-trial hearings, court documents and records be closed to the public and the media. He also wants officials involved with the case to be ordered not to talk about it publicly.

Allen said Friday that the motion for a gag order is intended to protect Edenfield's right to a fair trial by preventing news coverage that could lead to potential jurors forming opinions about the case.

The Judge Glynn County Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett hasn't ruled on it yet.

The grandmother wants everything made public. She says, Quoting article: If Sue Rodriguez, the grandmother of Christopher, has her way, everything leading up to the trial and the trial itself would be accessible to the public.

"If all those people who have supported us want to be there, then I think they should be able to," Rodriguez said Friday.

"I think (Peggy Edenfield) will still get a fair trial. Christopher didn't get treated fairly, but I think she will."

Allen is asking that any pretrial proceedings exclude the public and all media, as well as prohibit any electronic or photographic coverage of any court proceedings.

"The potential dangers of publicity are particularly acute at the pretrial stage, when the jury has not yet been sworn and sequestered," Allen said in a motion filed in court.

"Coverage of pretrial hearings might educate prospective jurors about inadmissible information or lead them to form opinions about the case before the trial even begins."

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the 1979 case of Gannett vs. DePasquale that a judge can close pre-trial proceedings.
