I'll sticky this thread so all new discussion is in one place. Please post news articles either under the Breaking News thread or over in News forum.

Just saw the press conference. Not much new info; though I think Mary Lacy is handling it well. Basically, she won't say anything regarding evidence, or any details really.
Karr is supposed to be extradited to the US w/in a few days. Speculation from the news media (or 'talking heads') is that we will probably get the details they have as to why he's been arrested when he is tried, which, they speculate, should be within a week.

Rainsong,
I have a couple of questions. Yesterday you alerted us that the DNA was a match. Today I am not able to get confirmation of that fact. Was that premature reporting by the media or do we have a match? Also, early reports say that the suspect admitted to aspects of the crime and some of that information was not made available to the public. Today I cant find anyone reporting these facts. Where are we at with that. I am not sure I am buying this suspect 100%. Is there anything that was being released in early reports that make his pressence at the location "absolute". I hope the DNA is a match, however, without that I still could believe this case remains unsolved. I know you're pretty on top of this stuff so anything you could share that offers consistency from yesterdays reporting to todays would be great.

Yes, Think, it was premature reporting or at least, as far as we know. So far the media has said:
a. there was a match
b. no testing has been done
c. swabs were taken of the suspect
d. test results are inconclusive
e. test results have not returned yet
Take your pick!
So far, according to the media, no forensic evidence ties him to the crime nor have they been able to show he was in Colorado in 1996.
Mary Lacy, Boulder DA did not release any hard information on the suspect.
All I can say is I would think Lacy would have to have something of value for a judge to sign an arrest warrant and to involve Immigration/Homeland Security and Thailand authorities.
Not much help, am I? _________________ Rainsong

Could this suspect simply be demented and obsessed with the case? He appears disoriented in demeanor.

I don’t know what lawyer is gonna want him after that news conference, but maybe because he said it was an accident he can still plead not guilty to the murder charge? I hope there IS a trial. I just can’t wait for all the facts in this case to be revealed. I’m sure Mr Ramsey can’t wait either, because he has had a long 10 years trying to get the public to understand the facts, and now we will all know the truth , and finally get to hear from Mr White. If I remember correctly, he didn’t want to talk about this case until there was a trial. Didn’t he also say something about there was information that might prove embarrassing to his family, or was that just a rumor? Anyway, I sure hope they got the right killer and this case is finally solved!
There must have been some confusion regarding the “picking her up from school” bit, but I’m sure that will all be straightened out eventually.
I’m remembering Pam Paugh saying something to the affect , years ago, about her knowing who the killer was. Was she talking about Karr at that time or just speculating? Has she said anything about this guy being who she was talking about? _________________ JMO |

Oh, I'm sure there will be all sorts of recanting going on once a lawyer is involved.
There's certainly a lot of incongruities, but as Rainsong pointed out, we don't know what the prosecution has either. And even his statement about picking her up at school, theoretically, could turn out to simply be delusional, even if he is the killer. You know one of the classic types of stalker truly believes they have a relationship with the victim even when they don't, so he may have all sorts of things he tells himself to convince himself he had a relationship with her. _________________ "I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it."

| Wasn't John Ramsey the one who broke the story to the media? Is it normal protocol for authorities to allow the family member of a victim to contact the media with a story before they do, or before they release an official statement? |

Don't know about anyone else, but I'd much rather have the news stories in with the related thread than have to go look all over. Why not just put them in that original JB thread, Rhonda? _________________ "I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it."

I don't know who broke the story. MSNBC had a statement from John Ramsey that Dan Abrams aired. No clue who actually let the cat out of the bag to the media. _________________ Rainsong
